Site Description
The long lines of sand dunes at Anglesey have formed from wind blown sand, which was moved inland by the prevailing westerly winds. The dunes continually shift, although they are stabilised primarily by marram grass. The valleys of the dunes are known as ‘slacks’, which are rich, fertile areas, which support orchids, violets, creeping willow and clover. The rare species Shore Dock Rumex rupestris occurs along a small streambed and on damp pond edges.
Botanical Significance
Noted for habitat, stoneworts and vascular plant interest. Shore dock and petalwort have both been recorded on the site, and the stoneworts present in the dune slacks have been noted for their importance on a European scale. The dunes support a notable fungus flora.
