Data and GIS Access

Available data
The IPA database collates and manages information on Important Plant Areas (IPA). For each IPA, site information is held on species/ habitats/ IPA criteria/ threats/ land use/ protection and textual accounts of the site. You can access these by using the 'site search' function, under the 'Search' tab on the top banner. 

Countries with site information: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Israel, Lebanon, (North) Macedonia, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestine, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

GIS boundaries
Plantlife International maintains a GIS dataset of Important Plant Areas (IPAs) for some countries included in the database.

Countries with GIS polygons available: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Bhutan, China, Croatia, Egypt, India, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, (North) Macedonia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom.

Countries with GIS central location points: Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Italy, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia.

Requesting data
If you require any of the GIS datasets available (as listed above) these can be provided on request as ESRI shapefiles to use within GIS mapping software. 

Data will be provided to the requesting party once a completed and signed data access contract has been received and terms of use have been agreed to. Full terms of use are available here.
